This project combines historical ceramic forms with the contemporary practices of American traditional tattooing and digital collage.

I throw the lidded vessels on the wheel, construct decorative handles, and embellish the surfaces with hand-drawn illustrations, illustrator-based vinyl stencils, and lustre finishes. Traditional ceramic glaze is used sparingly on the lids, handles, and interiors of the vessels, highlighting the natural beauty of the unglazed stoneware.

By focusing on the silhouette of the form in combination with intentional surface design, the project strikes a balance between the old and the new, the detailed and the minimalistic, and the intimate and the unknown.
